Shawn Fawson’s work appears in journals such as Georgia Review, Southeast Review, Louisville Review, CutBank, Bellingham Review, among others. She holds an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, and has won awards from the Academy of American Poets, Press 53, Sonora Review, Lumina Journal, Francis Locke Memorial Prize, and New American Press. She was twice a notable in Best American Essays and winner of three chapbook awards.

Her first book of poems, Giving Way was published by The Bitter Oleander Press and won the 2010 Utah Book Award for Poetry.

She was granted a Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical & Cultural Research Fellowship in 2012, the Elizabeth Iliff Warren Fellowship in 2015, and the Larry Kent Graham Scholarship in 2017.

Shawn grew up in many countries and now lives in Washington. She has worked as a spiritual care provider in a hospital and hospices. Her PhD is from the University of Denver where she studied public practices of social healing through the intersections of multiculturalism, contemporary poetry, and spiritual care. 

Her companions include the painter Steven Fawson, their three children, and two cats
